Did You Know?: Cancer Awareness
Source: American Cancer Society, September 2002

  • When’s the last time you had a checkup from your doctor? Schedule one now, and you could add years to your life. For tips on what to ask during your appointment, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
  • President Bush has declared September National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. If you’re a man, talk with your doctor about early detection testing to decide what’s right for you. If you’re a woman, make sure the men in your life have the facts. Find information about prostate cancer at www.cancer.org or call 1-800-ACS-2345.
  • September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month and National Ovarian Cancer Month. Talk with your doctor about your personal risk for cervical, uterine, vulvar, and ovarian cancers, and ask which early detection tests are right for you. For more information, call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
  • Chances are, breast cancer will touch you or someone you know. Do something about it by being a part of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer®. This spirited, noncompetitive walking event raises funds for vital breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. To find an event near you, call 1-800-ACS-2345.
  • The number one need of many newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families is for reliable information. If you or someone you love needs answers or support, the American Cancer Society can help. Contact us anytime, 24 hours a day, for free at 1-800-ACS-2345 and speak with a cancer information specialist.
