MISSION STATEMENT, DEPARTMENT OF NEUROLOGY BOTSFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL

It is the stated goal that the Neurology Department at Botsford is committed to delivering the highest quality of neurological care, including diagnosis and treatment, to the community, patients and referring physicians we serve.

The neurology resident is an integral part of the team approach to health care in order to attain our professed goals.

Working together, teaching, communicating and sharing new information, the attending and resident neurology staff at Botsford/M.I.N.D., will continue to uphold the long standing tradition that has kept neurology as a busy, vital, active and essential service, even as the face of medicine has changed through the years.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE OF NEUROLOGY RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM

The goal of the Botsford Neurology Residency Training Program is to provide a comprehensive clinical and didactic atmosphere in which the neurology resident can acquire all the necessary skills to go into a successful clinical practice of neurology.

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING

The Botsford Neurology Residency Training Program is a three year course of study, given the highest accreditation by the AOA. Upon successful completion of training, the resident is then qualified to sit for the written boards given by the AOBNP. These boards can be taken in the spring of the resident's third year, as long as he/she is in good standing, as determined by the Program Director. Upon completion of the written boards, an oral/practical exam is then offered by the AOBNP, leading to full board certification.

METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION

The three year program is significantly weighted towards clinical/bedside training. Daily rounds are conducted at Botsford by one of the attending neurologists. Office neurology supplements in-patient hospital exposure, with the attempt to provide the resident with at least 1/2 day per week in an office setting.
