Program

I. Goals and Objectives

There are two main goals of this four year program: 1.) to provide a diversified high quality training experience that will prepare the physician for the practice of general diagnostic radiology. 2.) to provide the requirements that will lead to certification by the A.O.B.R..

These goals are accomplished by interdepartmental exposure, integrating the training program with other departments within the institution and by affiliation with the Statewide Campus System of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

In those areas where Botsford General Hospital cannot provide excellent training opportunities, outside rotations are arranged to comply with the basic requirements of the A.O.C.R.. The overall approach during the residency is to develop the resident's ability to evaluate and interpret various imaging modalities as they relate to the patient's clinical presentation and to be proficient in various radiologic interventional procedures. The resident is not only instructed in the practice of radiology but tutored in the art of teaching radiology. Radiologic teaching skills are developed by the resident preparing and presenting lectures and by the resident functioning as a consultant to the house staff at the viewbox.

II. Application of Osteopathic Principles and Practices

All procedures and theories relative to osteopathic principles and practices are integrated into the Radiology Residency Program. Consultations with referring physicians are emphasized in an attempt to achieve the holistic approach to individual patient care.
