Graduate Medical Education - Resident Programs | Medical Students Weekly Department Education Program The Department of Emergency Medicine holds weekly educational programs for the staff and residents. All other housestaff and students are welcome. These programs are held weekly on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until noon. The program consists of the following: A. Book Review B. Journal Review C. Morbidity and Mortality Review D. Special Lectures Attendance at the weekly educational program is mandatory for all residents. Residents on out rotations will be excused from the rotation if they are unable to attend. See the accompanying information regarding the specifics of the various aspects of the educational program. ACOEP The American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, along with the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine are governing organizations that set the standards and guidelines for osteopathic emergency physicians. Residents at Botsford General Hospital will become members of this organization. Membership fees for the first year will be provided by the Department of Emergency Medicine. ACEP and EMRA The Emergency Medicine Residency Program facilitates membership for ACOEP (American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine) and the first year fees for ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians) and EMRA (Emergency Medicine Residents Association). Quality Assurance Quality assurance has become an important aspect of medical care. Time will be provided to the resident to participate in QA activities. This will involve participation with the Emergency Department Quality Assurance Director monitoring activities within the department and with the Base Hospital Physician monitoring pre hospital and "on-line" medical direction of EMS personnel. Department Meeting The Department of Emergency Medicine holds monthly meeting regarding issues pertaining to the operation of the department. Emergency medicine residents may be requested to attend these meetings. Notice will be sent regarding the scheduling of these meetings. Housestaff Instruction The resident shall take an active participation in the training of interns and externs at Botsford General Hospital. The Department of Emergency Medicine provides a noon lecture to the housestaff on the first Wednesday of the month. Seminars The resident shall attend at least one seminar/conference per year relating to emergency medicine. Botsford General hospital provides $1,750 per year to be used for this purpose. This seminar must be approved by the Program Director. The resident is encouraged to attend the ACOEP (American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Physicians) conferences. Electives Elective
rotations are selected by the resident. An exception to this occurs
in the event that the Residency Program Director feels that the resident
may have a weakness that requires a particular rotation. Please refer
to the "RESIDENT ELECTIVE ROTATION REQUEST FORM." This form
my be submitted at any time but must be submitted at least two weeks
prior to when a selected rotation is scheduled to begin. It is recommended
that the request be made well in advance to assure that the request
is approved. It is the resident's responsibility to arrange the elective
rotations, although the Residency Program Director may be of assistance
in this manner.
