| Graduate Medical Education| Resident Programs | Medical Students VII. FURTHER REQUIREMENTS Annual Report of Osteopathic Resident in Emergency Medicine The resident is required to submit an annual report signed by the Program Director to the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine within 30 days after the completion of the training year. The following information must accompany this report: 1. A copy of the annual paper 2. A copy of the log of major procedures 3. A copy of the lecture schedule attended or presented (the Department of Emergency Medicine will provide a copy of Emergency Medicine Residency Program lectures) A copy of the form that is to be submitted is included in this Training Manual. Annual Paper The resident shall prepare a minimum of 1 (one) manuscript per year suitable for publication. This is to be prepared under the supervision of the Program Director. Six months after beginning the residency program, the resident shall submit to the Residency Program Director the topic for the annual paper. Three months later, a rough draft shall be submitted. Two months later, the final paper shall be submitted. This same schedule shall hold true for the second and third training years. Failure to complete this requirement may keep the resident from further participation in the training program. A presentation based on the paper will be given to Botsford General housestaff during the residency. Evaluation of Resident's Performance The resident will be evaluated at least every 6 months by the Program Director. At that time the various rotation evaluations of the resident will be reviewed with the resident. Program requirements such as logs, annual paper, time sheets and service evaluations will be reviewed for progress at that time. The Program Director is required to submit to the ACOEP an annual report reviewing the resident's progress. A copy of this report is included in this Training Manual. Rotation Logs The emergency medicine resident will maintain a monthly log of his or her activity. This is kept on forms that are provided for this purpose. It includes a listing of the readings, cases seen (of special interest), special procedures done, and lectures attended for that month's rotation. These logs are to be submitted to the Residency Program Director by the second Wednesday following the end of the rotation. Logs are required by the AOA, ACOEP, Botsford General Hospital and the Department of Emergency Medicine. This is encouraged as it simplifies keeping an orderly list of procedures that can be provided after the completion of the residency to credentialing committees. It is not necessary that the resident keep a log of common emergency department procedures (flourescein staining of cornea, repair of simple laceration). Special Course Requirements The resident shall become certified as an ATLS provider and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) provider or APLS (advanced pediatric life support). Botsford General Hospital will provide funding for these required courses. EMS Instruction The resident
shall take an active participation in the training of EMS providers.
Providing EMS instruction is a requirement of the program. Requirements
