| Graduate Medical Education - Resident Programs | Medical Students In addition to the core curriculum, residents will be expected to participate in the following seminars to ensure continuity of learning:
CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION FAMILY PRACTICE A one month rotation will be spent at the office of a board certified family practitioner during the first year. During this time, the resident will become familiar with the running of an office and the necessary essentials for building and maintaining a practice. In addition, residents will rotate three half days per week at Farmington Village (FP) or Primary Care Medicine with the goal of building their own family practice caseload. Residents will have full responsibility for patient management under the supervision of the Clinic Director and attending staff. Call will be no more than every fourth night. INTERNAL MEDICINE During the first year, a one month rotation will be spent on both outpatient and inpatient general Internal Medicine services. The emphasis here is to develop skills for the outpatient management of acutely and chronically ill patients including decision-making skills for consultation and referral. The resident will also be required to choose two (2) four week rotations from the following subspecialties:
During the second year, residents will be required to complete rotations in the following subspecialties:
AMBULATORY SURGERY Botsford's Ambulatory Surgery Center sees over 4,000 cases yearly. Residents are expected to assist in surgical procedures in outpatient, rotating with the general, gynecological or other surgical subspecialties surgeons. Afternoons may be spent rotating in the surgeon's office.
