Didactic
1. The didactic
program is on-going throughout the four year program.
A combination of the more usual general diagnostic problems and
subspecialty topics are scheduled daily. Each discipline (chest,
bone, neuro-radiology, GI, nuclear, C.T., etc.) is reviewed and
integrated in conjunction with the multitude of imaging procedures
available. Some lectures are given in a formal manner while others
are given as case studies with resident participation.
2. There
is an affiliation with Michigan State University's Department of Radiology
for academic instruction in all aspects of radiology including weekly
didactic lectures.
3. Physics
lectures are given to all residents at Michigan State
University. We have a physicist present on a consulting basis.
Topics covered include:
a. radiation biology, including cellular and subcellular effects of
radiation
b. tissue kinetics and responses
b. tissue

c. radiological
factors modifying effects
d. total
body effects and histopathologic response
e. radiation
safety
f. physics of radiation apparatus
g. dark

4. Journal
Club - The Journal Club meets monthly. Radiologic
journals are stressed, but any appropriate article can be
discussed. The articles are presented by a resident or staff and
all members of the department are encouraged to attend. One
attending is designated to monitor the proceedings monthly.
5. Radiology
interacts with almost all services within the hospital.
With this in mind, many conferences are designated on a daily
basis throughout the year. These include participation by both
the radiologists and specialty services, GI, GU, ER, Pulmonary,
Cardiology, Orthopedics, etc., all have formal and informal
conference on a weekly basis.
6. The resident
must attend and participate in the weekly inter-
departmental educational meetings, staff meetings, monthly
departmental educational meetings, and the Tumor Board
meeting. These sessions are designed to provide a mature
and comprehensive understanding of the prevention, diag-
nosis, therapy and management of the disorders involved in
the various specialty fields.
7. Subspecialty
lectures on various subjects are provided through-
out the program.
8. Daily
film reading conferences occur within the department.
