Other suggested subspecialty out rotations are:
A burn unit rotation
Hand surgery
Peripheral vascular surgery
Surgical nutrition support
Following
completion of the out rotations at Botsford General Hospital, a resident
evaluation form is to be completed by the trainer and submitted
to the Medical Education Office. In addition, the resident is to prepare
a written critique of the out rotation and present it to the Program
Director of the General Surgery Residency and the Director Medical
Education. a file of the critiques will be maintained by the Program
Director and shall be available to the residents of their our rotations.
Surgery
residents, who are here for one to two years prior to taking subspecialty
training, are not eligible for out rotations during their
training in the Department of General Surgery.
It is expected that the resident will have six months available for
rotations during the four-year training program. This may vary for
the individual resident.
Factors that may affect the amount of rotation time permitted are,
the number of surgical residents in the program, the volume of surgical
cases scrubbed by the resident, and the degree of knowledge, merit,
and technical proficiency achieved by the resident.
The scheduling of out rotations is coordinated with the chief surgical
resident with the approval of the Program Director.
Under no circumstances will the resident be permitted to be away from
the scrub services of Botsford General Hospital for more than six consecutive
months.
