DIDACTIC EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS

A. Journal Club
A weekly journal club will be mandatory to stay current with the Podiatric/Orthopedic literature as it pertains to the foot and leg. The resident will choose a topic of interest and present it with a critical evaluation of the literature. The Journal Club will incorporate the present courseware TM Online Lecture Program as well as inclusion of an Evidence Based Medicine approach to the current medical and surgical literature. The session will take place at Botsford General Hospital and out-of-house residents will be encouraged to attend.

B. Anatomy Dissection Lab
Regularly scheduled dissection labs will be mandatory. Surgical anatomy, incision planning and three dimensional relations will be discussed early in the year. As the program progresses, attention will be directed to all areas of the forefoot, rearfoot and ankle. Osteotomy training will also be performed on saw bones. A-O fixation techniques will be explained and performed to the resident. Additionally, academic sessions are held with the Botsford Staff Anatomist reviewing Lower Extremity anatomy via lecture and Cadaver Dissection Laboratory.

C. Lecturing / Clinical Pathology Conference
Each quarter, the resident will be required to address the podiatry staff on a relevant topic. The resident will be able to use the hospital facilities for preparation of power-point presentations, handouts and other audiovisuals necessary for the lecture.
