Residency Selection:

  1. It is the policy of Botsford General Hospital to grant equal employment opportunity to all qualified persons without regard to sex, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, color, age, height, weight, marital status, handicap, political beliefs, or organizational membership.
  2. Application for residency in orthopedic surgery may be requested from the Department of Medical Education at Botsford General Hospital. Completed application is to be turned in to the Department of Medical Education at Botsford General Hospital. Deadline for receiving completed applications for the next academic year is September 30th of the previous year.
  3. Completed applications are forwarded by the Department of Medical Education to the Department of Orthopedics for review.
  4. The orthopedic surgical selection process includes the credentialing and interview process with the ENTIRE Orthopedic Department of Botsford General Hospital invited to participate in the residency selection process. The Directory of Medical Education and residents also participate in the process.
  5. The Department recommendations for residency positions will be sent to the Director of Medical Education for approval by the Medical Education Committee and the Board of Directors of Botsford General Hospital for approval.
  6. Formal notification of acceptance to the applicant will be made by the Directory of Medical Education before the published deadline in order that applications and programs may submit rank order lists to the AOA match.
  7. Match results will be announced by the National Matching Service, Inc.
  8. Selected residents shall be notified that appointment is on a one year basis, subject to renewal by the Department of Orthopedic Surgery on review of performance of the resident.
  9. The learning and work of the resident will be reviewed on a regular basis necessary and in accordance with the regulations of the American Osteopathic Association.
  10. The resident will be notified of any deficiencies or criticisms which will need to be rectified prior to entrance into the following year or for completion of the final year of residency.
