Educational Process:

The Orthopedic Surgical Residency Program at Botsford General Hospital is an affiliated program with the state wide campus system at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OPTI). Monthly meetings with various orthopedic topics sponsored by COGMET are held at MSU and require attendance. The orthopedic resident is exposed to a daily orthopedic educational series. The information covered within this series is presented in the morning, Monday through Friday and ranges from journal clubs and lectures to text reviews and board preparation. Residents will attend the quarterly orthopedic department meetings and are encouraged to attend the meetings of the Detroit Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as the Michigan Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Journal clubs and specialty clubs will be hosted by members of the Department as well as gold standard topics which will be held at various times during the year.

The first year residents will be required to participate in an anatomy course held at Michigan State University in the first part of January. All residents will be required to attend the basic science lectures presented by COGMET.

The Botsford Library & Internet Services department offers a full range of print and electronic resources and services.
