| Graduate Medical Education| Resident Programs | Medical Students Resident Responsibilities and Duties: 1. The resident shall spend his full time in orthopedic surgery except for elective rotations in allied department an out-service rotations. 2. The resident shall act as first assistant in orthopedic cases assigned where applicable and he shall record these first assists and also any second assists as required by the Department and the Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. 3. He will keep a log in nonoperative orthopedics in which he participates. 4. He shall compile a monthly summary of work done. Such records will be available for review by the Department as required or requested in a timely manner. All logs will be completed in accordance with the Academy of Orthopedic Requirements. 5. The residents will participate in emergency call and the schedule will be made up by the senior resident and distributed to Medical Education and the Department members as well as being posted in the emergency room and orthopedic floor. 6. Medical records are expected to be completed o a timely basis. Discharge summaries are to be done at the time of discharge whenever possible. 7. The American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics requires the residents attend one of the annual meetings during their residency program. 8. The residents shall participate in pre and postop care of all patients on the orthopedic service. 9. The residents
shall assist in the instruction of interns and medical students on
the orthopedic service including assisting them in preparation of presentations
for the Department and insure that rotating students are exposed to
the subjects which are outlined in the course study of this college
program.
